high-performance nylon airmats

Last Spring 2000, there was an intriquing article in The Surfers Journal by George Greenough who was riding (apparently very fast) on some kind of new, lightweight, high-performance surfmats (4th Flyers?). That story sort of just ended in the 1980s, but whatever became of his surfmats? Does he still make them in Australia or what???

Three people were involved in the 4th Gear Flyer tests – George, Paul Gross and Dale Solomonson. I believe Dale was really the guy making the mats while George and Paul were provide tons of input and insight, a great team created a creat surf mat. Well Dale continued to improve upon these designs with better materials and better manufacturing. He now sells them…one offs, totally custom, totally amazing guy. He is one of those guys totally losing money, but totally 100% in love with making the best possible surf mat. He made me a mat this past Fall, talk about craftsmanship. I actually just ordered another for my brother. They are wild – roll into nothing and are so easy to blow up, surf amazingly well, and are just way fun. I pretty much just longboard but this is fun to throw in the back ofmy van and bag – every so often I take it out and have some fun. Check out Dale’s website at http://www.homestead.com/neumaticsurfcraft/NeumaticSurfcraftwebsite.html He is a one man operation…believe me no one but him works for him and I am def not getting anything talking about him…if you talk or e-mail with him you too will see why I am jazzed up about Dale and Neumatic Surfcrafts.
