high performance quad?

looking on getting a quad like the Cole or Stretch model.anyone have any experiences with these types of boards?I did a search in the archives but really didn’t find anything.I emailed both but their response was pretty broad. It seems you can get it the same dims as your standard shortboard or go 2-4 inches shorter.I’ve read that the boards have a fuller template and the tail and nose are wider leading me to believe you can go shorter.I would be using the board for my all round conditions on the east coast.Any opinions?

Thanks.

…the east coast of WHERE ?

oops…Virginia/outer banks,N.C.

thanks mate ! [I just wondered if you may have been an Aussie]

Did you see the photos posted by “Lokbox” [jim robertson] here recently ?

I think that quad he is riding is a double bump swallowtail outline …he seems to be hitting the lip and getting tubed on that okay .

“High performance” is a fairly general term …what sort of surfing do you do …will you be wanting to boost airs on it , for instance ? [Or were you just classifying it as that to distinguish it from something more stiff like a twin keel ? Are you more after some design which you can do tighter turns and go more vertical on , maybe ?]I usually think of a higher performance board as something lighter , narrower , a bit more rockered than your average twin keel fatarsed fish , with an option for different fin setups. [But that’s just me , here in west australia]

cheers

Hey Ben,I pretty much want the board to do everything except for busting airs.An all round board for waist to 2-4’ overhead. Not really looking for a retro type board…already have to many of those.

I guess to be more specific,I want a quad that performs like a standard thruster. My only dilema is what size to get considering the ones I’ve inquired aboat have a much wider tail(bat tail)and nose than your typical shortboard.Ideally, would you go shorter or use the same dims as your shortboard.Thanks.

If you want something that performs like a standard thruster, maybe you should get a standard thruster. A quad is not going to perform rail-to-rail and vert like a thruster. Those are optimized on a thruster, and if that is how you like to surf you should ride a thruster.

If you want a board for smaller days (which is why many get quads), or if you don’t go hard rail-to-rail, or if the waves you surf don’t let you get vert, an inch or two shorter and an inch wider in the tail oughta do ya.

Blakestah,

What are your thoughts on twinsers?

don’t know how to post pictures but here’s a link to the board I’m referring to:http://www.stretchboards.com/photo.php?photo=125&album=28

Y2n, Is this the pic?

Thanks SURFSTHEWORD…thats the one

I’m confused. Rumor has it more than 50 per cent of shortboards in the water in santa cruz are now quads. So did Rat boy and crew stop going vert rail to rail. Anyone seen Nathan Fletcher surfing lately? If you don’t call his surfing “rail to rail” or “vert”, then i’m not sure what it is.

Y2n,

The next time your in the Outer Banks stop by Gale Force Glassing and talk to Rascoe Hunt he is very knowledgable in all the latest technology. Ecspecially for the waves in that part of the world.

well, my mate in Albany [here in wozzie ] uses his thruster templates , for his quads . And he swears by them . He prefers them to his thrusters when it’s hollow and overhead , he said.

cheers !

My pleasure. Keep us posted.
