Anyone know the history of boards with four fins? Rich Pavel invented the Quad Fish and Wil Jobson developed the Twinzer. About when? Anyone else before?
Late '70’s…
But four fins have been used prolly in the mid 50’s, certainly in the early 70’s.
Depends who needs the credit.
Will Jobson developed the four fin “Twinzer” in Santa Cruz, California, in late 1980s?
Al Merrick of California surfed a personal four fin design in 1982.
Glen Winton of Australia developed the Four Fin about 1982.
Millsy on the sunshine coast ripped on them in the mid eighties.
In 1964 I did a Tri-fin, glass ons, in the same configuration that is popular today. In 1970/71 developed the removable PressLock removable fin system. And in 1971 we made a “research” board with seven (7) removable fins to evaluate various configurations. At the same time there were people exploring multi fin setups in Hawaii. Point is, it isn’t new.
Had a MorganBrewer with Jobson licenced twinzer in '84…meaning it must have come out late '70’s.
Had a MichaelBaron four fin, wide cluster, early '82.
Alan “Buddy” Mc Cray of Blast Kneeboards, made quad fish in 1979 for Sunset beach Hawaii.Steve Lis and Rich Pavel were kneeriders and shapers riding quadfish as of 1990.
