i have a hitachi clark planer and it’s starting to make unwanted noises. sort of a high pitch scream. it’s the cheaper of the two models and just wondering maybe if the bearings or something else is going bad. and also if i can fix it myself. thanks
Sounds like bearings. In the cheaper model they aren’t sealed so they konk out quicker. Do it yourself? Don’t know, because I haven’t replaced mine yet. Doug
From what I’ve read (just last night, in fact) its probably the bearings. Try searching for “planer” in the Swaylocks search box. I believe the solution to the problem was either replacing bearings or get a different type of bearing altogether.
It most likely is the bearings, Its very easy to change them yourself however its 3 different sizes so they are hard to locate I replaced mine that conked out with regular bones reds bearings from a skateshop. hmmm I think its Fiberglass supply.com that sells all the parts for the hitachis so you can get the bearings there. its very easy to do the job if you are mechanically inclined. IF you are going to crack the case, replace all 4 bearings Its worth it for the time. http://www.paradoxdistribution.com
can you replace them with sealed bearings. thanks sorry, my shift key on my keyboard does’nt work.
the skateshop ones i got are sealed, and the sealed are available on the website in my previous post. http://www.paradoxdistribution.com
Buy the sealed bearings from Clark, they are tried and tested.
I agree buy the odd shaped bearingsfrom clark but the regular size ones I would disagree, even though clarks are sealed overall they are a crappy quality bearing, the skateones i have are much higher quality and they make the planer run smoother than without them they are a much higher ABEC rating so its less friction so my blades spin a bit faster with less work. http://www.paradoxdistribution.com
