Hitachi P20SA

The modified Hitachi by Clark Foam was originally a Hitachi P20SA.

As I don’t want to buy the modified one which is quite expensive and I need to get it shipped so that costs me even more, I thought of buying the unmodified original. I guess this planer is good also, otherwise I expected Clark Foam to modify another planer and not the Hitachi P20SA.

Anyone here that uses this planer and says that I should get it? My other option is a Bosch GHO 40-82, specs look really good and what people say about it as well, but I wanted shapers opinions.

Thanks, Maxi

P.S. Pics of my first shaped board, without a planer will come soon. 6’3" squash tail, it’s quite nice but took too long lol.

I use that “stock” planer and it works fine. The only mods I made are the addition of the vacuum attachment and slinky hose, and some sanding to round off some of the edges. The main advantage of the modified planer that Clark made is that you can adjust the cutting depth more quickly and easily, especially on the fly.

I probably should have done some research before asking this question, but since I’m here…

How do you convert the standard P20SB into vacuum compatible? Is there a kit you can buy somewhere? The plastic cover that goes over the exaust looks custom to me… If not, how did you manage it?

Cheers… Matt

there is an attachment that can be bought on www.foamez.com that is an exhaust attachment. then you just need the hose and a vac. but you can also buy the same exhaust attachment and just use the dewalt bag attachment which works.
