Just picked up a new p20sb and made all the Clark mods to it (awesome tutorial now on YouTube). Planer was working great for 15min. and now nothing happens. Pull the trigger and nothing…as if it wasn’t plugged in. Could it be the cord? I haven’t a clue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hello SP-
What type of foam? Are you using a vacuum system? Blowing out the planer with compressed air every so often?
Hi J, EPS foam. Got as far as a few test passes. Not using a vacuum system yet but plan to. Blew out what I could, however I’m not entirely sure how to take the planer entirely apart. I apprecaite your input!
So wait… you got a planer.
You made all the mods…
But you cant figure out how to troubleshoot the electrical, or take it back apart?
I’m learning with it. Shaped the first board with a surform and it turned out decent. Much thinner blank however. Sanded the glass with an orbital sander…
Any tips on disassembly?
Get a voltmeter. Remove the screws on the handle (it splits) and trace the power to the switch. Before plugging in, blow out the switch or trigger and snap it a few times. Dust tends to get inside the switch and blocks the connection. Then plug in and trace the power to the short. If you can’t handle that, get someone who can like PeteC here on Sways. Good luck.
I took apart the trigger assembly so I know that it’s free of dust and working properly. Everything is blown out plus there was little to no dust to begin with. Malfunctioning began minutes after first use. I’m unsure if I need to inspect the motor, if EPS foam melted creating a short somewhere. It’s partially disassembled now, in the correct order, just don’t know how to remove the large pulley. Thanks for your input PeteC!
I’d check the brushes, they get where they don’t seat, also direct wire, bypass the trigger, there is seldom a problem with the armataure or field windings
I re-wired the original chord and I’m back in business. Must’ve got the wrong 25’ chord when doing the mod. Thanks everyone!
