Hitachi Planer

No matter how long I have used this planer, the clark foam modified adjustment knob feels sloppy and moves to much blade too easy. Has anyone modified their’s to feel more tight.? the small handle sticking out of the knob seems to make rotation more difficult? mine’s epoxied in wont remove

Just lift up the knob and wind a rubberband around the shaft underneath the knob,or drop the horizontal pin,and use a rubber washer.Herb

I have done it many times. On completion of this task you will be able to make a new handle. SK

Mike…I’m not too fond of the “action” with that joystick, either. Do like herb said and you’ll have a lot less grief. By the way…what has become of that supposedly ergonomic and shaper friendly planer that was to be introduced this year?

We just got back from the French cloning lab and crossbred a Skil with a Hitachi…we call them “Skitachis”.Have a litter of ten and will send them to Jim Phillips for training after they are weaned and get their shots.

if anyone hears about a new model planer, please put up a post. i do like the hitachi, but it’s not a skil. i just don’t like the front shoe adjustment. someone could make alot of $$ replicating a skil. why not get skil to start the production again…

After you break the plastic knob off, take off the little clip. Now you can disassemble the front foot and clean/lube it. Get a small block of wood (I Used maple) and shape a new knob that fits your hand (Bring on the woody and pecker jokes)! Before you put it all back together, cut some peace’s of packing foam to fit between the foot and planer body. This will serve as a sort of return spring for the foot. Get at it Bro. and good luck! Scott.
