Any input as to the year ? Board measures 10’ 31/2"L,16"N,221/4"W,15"T. Center stringer, double stringers on the rails with what looks like high density foam between them,no number on the board. I have included more pics of rails and rocker, also found number on stringer.
That’s either foam or balsa out on the rails. Given the color, I think you’re right about it being foam. I’d expect any balsa that old to show some discoloring. Especially compared to the rest of the board.
I’d also bet there’s a number on it, somewhere. But, numbers are not reliable in most cases of 60s boards. So, if that’s high density foam it would mean the board was built around 1966-67. That’s when foam sandwich stringers were very popular. All that aside, 10’3-1/2" is damn boat!
The outline, especially the nose, appear to be from the Phil Edwards model. Shaping at Hobie, in the rack next to Phil, I had a front row seat to watch Phil shape, and study his outlines. Phil was the only shaper that I saw tackle rail stringers that far outboard. Clearly a custom board, IMO. Stable high density foam and RW stringers were common, at Hansen, from 1965 on. I’m sure the same was true at Hobie, given Hobie’s closer relationship with Gordon Clark. Interesting board.

Hmmm, that would be one way to deal with an accident in the outline or blank. Cool board.
Wow! Love those rails!
Re: The length…You;ll see old photos/movies of Corky riding a blue board with a purple tape off right at the nose. He once told me it was a 10’7 that Phil Edwards shaped for him to “smooth out his style.”
Artdecrpid-Thanks for the pictures, that tail shot is great. Would it be possible to get a side view /bottom view of the nose? Thanks, J
I saw those similarities, too. The outline and the stringer config do echo Phil’s work.
Ha1 That would do it.
Check back later this afternoon and I can post more pics.
Thanks for the extra pics! -J
