Hollow Wood or Balsa?

I’ve shaped foam boards, but something seems missing, so I’ve been thinking of getting into building wooden longboards, and was wondering … Which would you build, a Hollow Wood or a Balsa and why? I have a lot of woodworking experience so the construction process for either shouldn’t be much of a problem. If you choose Balsa, would you go soild or chambered, and again why?

this question has been posted maybe a dozen times. Check out the archives.

Cheers.

Balsa, for me. Because it’s ‘‘the devil I know.’’ Hollow wood, is the devil I don’t know. If the balsa you get is heavy, chamber it to get the lightness required. In the eye of many, a balsa board is more of a ‘‘classic.’’ I think so too.

Dont limit yourself to taking on just either of those 2 different styles of construction.

There are a lot of different materials and ways of building something that floats and goes.

The sweeping curves and larger volume of a longboard would be a joy to build.

But youre no newbie so youd know all that.

Whatever you choose, please post your work so we can all follow along…
