Hey, good respirator. Change to organic vapor (activated charcoal) for glassing. Good to see someone wearing proper respiratory protection. They're heavy, but will keep your lungs clean.
howdy dansan, 'musta?
i’ve yet to meet the kids in the article, but it should be a good opportunity for me to job out the glassing to the shaper based in cavite— if not to bobet himself, ‘mainman’ here at sways hehe you pinoy too?
cheers,
kumasta' pare!
nice work..
where are you located?
my wife's family is ilocano

uy pinoy shapers! first post sirs!
i’m new here at swaylock’s, though been lurking for a couple of weeks back hehe
it’s nice to see fellow kababayans that are into shaping and stuff.
I started surfing a few years back, though not regularly, (from manila btw…) I’m really diggin’ it! Whenever I surf I usually go for rentals, sometimes i borrow my friend’s shortboard (mas madalas ko pa raw magamit kesa sa kanya haha). Now I’m rooting for my own board, and i’m thinking of shaping my very first board. Very personal haha. I’m planning to do a 5’11" Zipper. Starting to assemble my workplace. i’ll try to make a video/photo blog of the whole process.
wish me luck fellow shapers!
cheers
Nojo
best of luck mojo, i’m manila-based too. where’s your ‘home break’ btw?
thanks. La Union sir how 'bout you guys?
strike anywhere hehe as long as the wallet permits " ) other than san juan & bacnotan, any other LU favorites? unless LU locals want to keep 'em secret hmm!
never get the chance to ride outside San Juan. haha Maybe next time. Heard Baler is great too. Where in the Metro are you from exactly? I’m from Mandaluyong. Maybe we can put up a Pinoy Shapers hangout of sorts. getting excited about shaping my board!
QC here. baler’s a treat if you can bear the long trip hmm if you’re looking for a hangout, lui’s boardshop in katips is now a resto. not sure if that’s convenient for you but personally i’d nominate bistro 70s in anonas every friday night when The Jerks are onstage " )
cheers,
QC’s fine with me, always hang out at Cubao Expo anyway. looking for a hangout where i can bounce ideas off with fellow shapers, while drinking beer of course. haha Planning for Baler this January, probably finished my board by then.
how about december? bobet (mainman here at sways) is planning a trip for the xmas holidays, hopefully i’m done glassing my wood + plant fiber hybrid by then
cheers,
you got a hybrid? sweet! i’ll see about this Dec. you guys get your stuff locally? I’m looking for an EPS foam manufacturer.
my board’s foam-free hehe no idea where to get eps though hmm we’re soon going to see 100% biodegradable foam-- made from coconut husk fiber " )
cheers,
hmm that’s nice to hear. probably cheaper too. is the shaping and glassing process still the same with organic materials?
shaping’s similar if you’re using a power planer to trim processed husk fiber, glassing’s the same but you’ll need to coat the finished board with a low-weight, high-resistance sealant so it won’t soak up resin like a sponge. the extra step is similar to spackling foamies prior to glassing. it may or may not require a stringer, IMO rail buildup like classic wood-strip boards might be a better choice
hmm interesting. is it already available, i mean the organic foam? how bout those bamboo fiber cloth?
if you’re referring to bamboo cloth for glassing purposes, it’s already available in the US. local alternatives are plenty but are largely untested for board glassing. i initially gave myself til yearend to make a comparative table of foam specs for the fabricator to match, but it’s still pending given my own target to finish board lamination within the year. you may already have seen this sample that i posted here sometime sept-oct this year :
they presented 3 versions of varying densities for architectural purposes but none seemed ideal for matching conventional board foam specs, hence the need for a comparative table. if we can put it together by yearend, we’ll likely have the first viable blank ready for shaping by summer hmmm!
surfiber, Looks good enough to eat ! just add milk, honey and eat or toast it with butter and jam !
