Hot Buttered Surfboards Drifta

I know this is technically a “shapers” website and I should shape my own board.  So please bear with me on this.

I’m tryin to find out if anybody’s ridden a Drifta?  Have any of you Swaylockians ridden one of these things?  Either the Modern version or the Classic.  I’ve been fascinated with these things since I read in Surfer’s Journal about Terry Fitzgerald’s Big Red from cicrca 1980ish getting broken in the early 2000’s.  it was like losing a family member to the Fitzgeralds’s.  Anyway, they sound like an amaziing ride and I’m going order one up.  But I can’t decide whether to go with the Classic or Modern.

if Terry is shaping it you cannot go wrong and if you can watch him shape it you will be fortunate, give him a call and ask him what they difference would be, he knows exactly how his boards will ride, shaped me a board in the 70’s probably the best board i had in that era magic a great surfer and master shaper back then  i am sure he is light years beyond that now .aloha…

Got it!

It looks incredible.

Hank Warner shaped it.

Picked it up last week.

Now just waiting for some swell.

Hi Guys,

Apologies for posting on an old thread, but I've been playing around with the 2+1 setup on a couple of shorter boards and was also wondering whether anyone has had some experience of riding/owning a Drifta and what you thought of them?

My last couple of months of experimenting has been great in as much as I think I have struck upon a really versatile board in the form of my 6'6" Widow, which just seems to go in all sorts of conditions. However, a shorter, Drifta style board would be nice to also try in some smaller stuff.

What kind of bottom shape did Fitz put on them? I know he starting shaping the Driftas around the same time he was experimenting with concaves.

Brownrecluse-a ride report would be much appreciated!

Thanks

can't help you with the shape but, i've seen some footage and pics of Fitz's sons riding some of the original Drifta's.

both those guys surf really well. smooth, powerful, classic lines, but really  radical... good luck with your board
