Hot coat issues!!

Hi all. I have had a little bit of trouble of setting off a hoat coat. It’s cold and damp up here (Ireland) and have had trouble getting my hotcoats to kick nice. To try and overcome this i constructed myself a little hot box oven thing which i can heat pretty quick and easy to 40C (100F). Only problem is that when i opened it up after the board being inside for over an hour the conditions were more like what i would imagine they would be in a tropical rainforest. So i have learnt my lesson. Stick in a dehumidifier! My question however is is there any way of saving the presently tacky hot coat or will i just have to hot coat over it again? I don’t want to make the board any heavier than it already is.

Hot coat over it again. Since it will be sanded, it won’t make it heavier…

Sounds like you learnt the hard way about humidity. Sanding as much as conveniently possible before hotcoating again may help the second coat stick a bit better too. Make sure your racks are level and do your x strokes and last passes with the tip of the brush as well.

Heat the resin and take some of the chill out of the room if possible. They make specialized resin heaters, but a heating pad or electric blanket will work.
