hot tips for futures fins

no more French Fries

…Right-on Tom !!!

All fins have lift and drag. That’s why all of us have them on our boards. That “drag” gives us the control to keep our boards in the water and tranfer energy where it needs to go for positive surfing results. “Lift” counters the drag to a certain extent. The greater the lift (a product of foil and surface tension) the faster and looser the fins and boards feel. Vector fins maximize lift and keep the drag coeffecient to a minimum. I’ve experimented at length and continue to modify the “concave foils” on the high pressure side of my rail fins - adjusting configuration, depth, surface tension, flex, and memory. Every vector foil I’ve used has more lift and less drag than the very well foiled Futures with a “flat inside foil” that I otherwise use. Everyone of my client that uses these fins has experienced the same positive results: increased ease going on to rail; increased speed, acceleration, and power; ease holding the board on rail for as long as may be required by the nature of the turn. They are an unqualified and quantum step forward in fin and therefore surfboard design. Further, I agree completely with STL. No need for “bandaids.” Router your holes properly (close tolerance depth and flush with the bottom of the board), use a proper resin to fabric ratio in the laminations, cover the area of the box with an elliptical patch and the lap from the deck, don’t sand through the fabric, and the boxes will stay in the boards. As I support Futures as the best possible removeable fin system AND the finest execution of fin foils for my boards I spoke directly with the company to clear the air about, as some Swaylockers say, “selling out” to the offshore board manufacturers currently competing with custom surfboard manufacturers. They do not sell to Min Fang (Chinese manufacturer of the polyester boards “flooding” the market.) They do not sell to Boardworks (who in fact are making their own “knock off” of the Futures box for their boards.) However, they do sell a low grade “nylon” box to Cobra and Surtech. Their decision to sell to Cobra and Surftech is disappointing.

I heard that patents aint worth the paper they are written on.Whats to stop them from tooling up and making a replica fin box?Just wondering.

…Clean,It’s also happening to the computer, and aero parts industry as we breath. This is not just Chin stuff anymore, try India,Sri Lanka,Bangeladesh,Pakastan ++++++++.Herb

this is extremely dissapointing news. before switching over to futures I had expressed my miscontent feelings about FCS supplying plugs and fins to these pop outs, futures had conveyed the same feelings and had mentioned that they would never sell to the pop outs! The main reason for switcing systems besides having much more repair frequencies. Looks like I will be dumping futures.

I try not to get into political stuff but here is something very interesting. In my community we have a small Chinese population that started arriving at the turn of the century (last century that is). They have all progressed from simple merchants to what are now some of the finest surgeons, scientists etc. in the USA.All of the Asian kids make great grades and are well behaved. The families stay together and Grandma doesn’t usually end up in a nursing home.Just a thought. Nothing wrong with the chinese or taiwanese. It’s the greedy american that goes over there, bargains them down to less then there product is worth, only to bring it back here and sell it for his own personal pocket fattening.

Fuch future

used dave. what kind of a name is dave? kinda like bob. wierd name dave.

Hey slice, you’ve got a lot of room to dog Dave about his name.

Tuna???is that you Tuna?? R.B.

Try Lok Box. They are made in the U.S.A.,and will never be sell-outs.

Futures selling out to the Chinese? Heat up some tar and get the feathers cuz some crazy shit is going to go down here fellas. But wait- surfboards are our sacred craft that gives us such freedom and enjoyment but they are not immune to the reality of the world around us. Just look at the clothes you are wearing or maybe even the computer you are reading this from. There is a strong chance it was made in China. Do you do anything about this? Probably not. The vast majority of you probably drive gasoline fueled cars too? Are you not buying gas now because it goes to The George W. Bush Militia and his friends in Saudi Arabia, who have about the same respect for human rights as the Taliban? No. It sucks we live in a world that isnt so clear cut and some things we are so against, we support without even knowing it. But the credible sources say that Future DIDNT sell out so you can breath easy now. But saying you are going to cut ties with any company that deals with the Chinese (despite their human rights abuses, unscrupulous business practices, and making those hideous Cosco boards)-shows a great deal of denial that in the growing global market, your surfcraft are not going to be affected in any way. Plus- I too share the belief that Future Fins make the best removable fin systems so give them a break. If you want to talk about real sell outs- look at Surftech! They are laughing at you right now. They are taking your surf culture you grew up with and are feeding it to the sheep with their crappy boards that clog your lineups, take your money as craftsmen, and give nothing back to surfing.
