To any swaylockians with futures fins experience behind them…Any tips on a hot fin template and/or combo of templates for a 175lb rider on two boards: 1. a small wave swallowtail 6’0" 2. regular thruster, 6’3" squashtail. They came with the composite EA fins and i’d like to hear about anybody’s experimentations or fin template experience for this system…Thanks
I have heard of giys cutting a slot at the base of the fin to allow for some flex
Hay namotuman, I have lots of templates I’m experimenting with. And have some that work quite well. Several foils to choose from as well. Contact me by email and send me the specks of your board where you surf and the conditions you ride the most. We’ll go from there and see I can suggest something from future’s collection or make something for you that will suit your needs. Mahalo, Rich
Rich, Have you seen any of the double foil fins that Futures is working on? Hear anything?
No Greg, I haven’t seen a thing, only talk at this point. I double foil all my fins. Some more than others of course. Thanx for asking.
I have seen them. They have one foil at the base and another at the top starting about 1/2 way up. I’ve heard that they develop increadible power. I saw some boards that these fins were in with the rail ripped right off the boards from increased load. Just wondered if Santa Cruz had seen anything yet. From what I hear they aren’t going to introduce the fins until they can figure a way to keep the boards together.
Greg, There are a few future vector fins floating around Santa Cruz. I see them occassionally. A privledged few have them. The new future suspension system that is on their website is a very sensible answer to the problem of dealing with the extra lift and drive that new more agressive fin foils offer. It ties all three fin boxes together giving whole set-up common structural integrity. I’m sure a little foam routing and epoxy/carbon fiber and/or fiberglass laminated tee-bones tying the boxes together would be an excellent home made solution. One of my 4.5" double foiled undercambered fins ripped the box clear out on a board last week. I still have the board. I sent you a photo of it in an email attachment. Do you recall getting it? Mahalo, Rich
Thanks for your generosity. I will shoot you over an email to get some of your ideas. It seems that you’ve done some extensive homework with the futures system.
I didn’t get that e-mail… I may have been out of town. Seems this new technology may push the whole thing forward. REAL ariels.
I’ve seen those vectors done as glass-ons and in other (stronger) systems,as well as many different styles of g-10 fins, and their was no need for bandaids such as the suspension system, to keep the board together. Just gotta put them in something that doesn’t have a high “roll-out” factor. regular old “turbo” fins create a very similar “load” and never had these problems either. You older guys should know better.
hey stl, what are the other stronger systems you’ve seen these fins work in?
future vectors equal breaking out parachute dragging pieces of junk
User Dave, I cannot say whether it is that you words are as fluent as the seawater, or that I they wet my unquenchable thirst for knowledge, but I think I can safely say that once again you perception and vast knowledge of surfcraft leave all we Swaylockians agast. If you can spare a few more precious moments, do share more of your hot tips – oh great surf-sage. Rich
I remember people bashing fcs for selling out to the chinese what about future see lots of boredworks, serftechs, and co-bras with futures a sellout is a sellout is a SELLOUT !
Does the world grow smaller each day? How much of the world exists in as a part of an open market? Can the Chinese find a way to buy just about anything they want third of fourth hand? Are the Chinese the enemy? Is User Dave really Shaper Dave? Is capitalisim comparable to a dragon eating its own tail or one devouring the world? Stay tuned for the next episode in the on going saga, but I’m done with this thread. That’s for damn sure. Rich
Are you sure about this? This is the first time I have heard of this. I have not seen any Futures on these boards, although I haven’t seen very many. Can others confirm? I will have to re evaluate where my fin monies are spent.
ya,check again I see lots here are backing future up about this slam like I said a sellout is a sellout is a SELLOUT ! long live ofishl
Howzit user dave, Maybe FCS learned a lesson from selling to the Chinese the first time and won’t sell them any more. Now it’s Future, who’ll be the next in line? I know that my FCS reps in Honolulu were disgusted that the guys in Austrailia sold to the Chinese. Aloha, Kokua
All I know is that when Cobra approached us, I told Larry to run not walk away and never look back.
if this is true, I will be dropping futures. sell out is a sell out. fck that.
