Hot wiring an outline and/or rail bands (EPS)

'Tis the holiday season and I was forced onto a death march into Michael’s.  At one point, I found a hand held hot wire!  About a 5" wire that gets plugged in.   Anyone ever try this to cut the outline in EPS?  More over, it seems like you can draw your rail bands and use it to cut that too… 

It was just a flash and I have not decided to buy one at this point, but it got me thinking…

Here's another variable angle hot wire thingie.  For the rectangular 'slab' blanks it could use a deeper throat.  I would call that version the Linda Lovelace model.

 

 

The Stingray 12 inch hot wire rig with nichrome wire is a good tool. Not close tolerance....Freehand....

We started with a 10'4" x 24" x 5".....not too bad for free hand...the blank cleaned up nice with the power planer.
