hotcoat pinholes!?!

just finished glassing 4th board and after letting the hotcoat kick

(uv poly resin) there are pinholes in my pinlines. what to do?

I'm going to add more hotcoat after a good sanding,

but how do I keep it from happening again?

and also what was the cause?

 thanks

If you stirred resin very hard, you may have created micro-bubbles in it. Since pinlines are usually made with lots of catalyst, the bubbles may not have had enough time to dissipate before the resin gelled. Another possibility is bad surfacing agent. I have had this happen with my latest hotcoat. Doing another one with new SA resolved the problem. Or maybe the blank gasses out through the laminate… Or…

Maybe

Lam was too dry

or

Filler too thin

?

what do the pros glassers think

?

Sorry I wasn’t real clear
the pinlines were sprayed arylic paint
on the blank
not resin pinlines
also they were black
and when I let the resin kick
I opened the door and let it set
before I took it outside
so the wax came to the top
and there were no pinholes before
it went outside

got me then…?

Howzit Mjshdj, If the pin lines are on the foam then they are under the glass lamination. Then you did the hot coat and the pin air is only where the pinlines are, new one on me but I always use catalyst for hot coats even with UV resin and after it kicks then I put the board in the sun to get really hard. If the pins are a dark color that may be the answer since the sun would make them hotter. Aloha,Koua
