Dears, How do u tape the rail before hotcoat? I find difficulties in taping along the center of the rail edge. Cos the weave of the 6 oz fabric makes the tape hard to stick well. Is it possible to hotcoat the rail first then leave a much smoothy/evenly surface for taping? Thanks for your attention. Regards, Crabie

Just brush your hotcoat to the bottom of the rail tuck then run a squeege along this line.
To hotcoat the deck you don’t need to tape off. Just brush your hotcoat to > the bottom of the rail tuck then run a squeege along this line. Lately I have been doing hot coats just like Kokua said but actaully paint up under the board to cover the laps. I then next sand the bottom laps down while being carefull not to get into the bottom weave.I then scuff with scotchbrite and go ahead and tape the bottom and hotcoat as normal. This is extra work but when you are ready to sand the board it really goes well.
Hey Herb, Too bad it’s available in VHS only, I dont have a VHS since Y2K I threw it into the trash. Regards, Crabie

Thanks Kokua, Does it same in hotcoat the bottom? I think I m using this technique as I just tape the edge of the bottom deck only and let the resin flush to the surface of the tape. When it becomes solid, I tear off the tape and sand the rail tuck. Next time I 'll try this as I think running a squeege along this line could helpful to make it more even. Regards, Crabie
Thanks Cleanlines, Do you hotcoat the bottom first or hotcoat the surface deck first? Does it better to hotcoat the bottom first then hotcoat the surface deck? Regards, Crabie
Thanks Cleanlines,>>> Do you hotcoat the bottom first or hotcoat the surface deck first? Does it > better to hotcoat the bottom first then hotcoat the surface deck?>>> Regards,>>> Crabie Hot coat the deck first, you need to lay down reinforcement fiberglass patches for your fins or fin system and I baste the bottom to seal any pin air holes before hot coating the bottom
Hot coat the deck first, you need to lay down reinforcement fiberglass > patches for your fins or fin system and I baste the bottom to seal any pin > air holes before hot coating the bottom Hey kokua…baste the bottom? How about some details…is this a widely done practice?
I’m not sure how many glassers use this process but there’s nothing worse than seeing a beautiful airbrush job ruined by pin air. I also baste the rails, that way there’s less chance of sanding into the weave.
