how big an egg?

I’ve never owned an egg, and decided it’s time to give one a try; I like the idea of the “flow”, also that the egg seems like it’d be good in almost any conditions, plus I want that single fin feel. I checked the archives pretty good, learned alot, and and narrowed it down a bit: 6’ 5" or 6’ 7" - my question I guess is for all you egg-experienced, is can I go that short and still have that smooth flow-y feeling? I want to trim that sucker!

I mostly ride a 5’11" fish these days, but when the conditions are right I use my 6’4" hull.

I guess the answer lies in what sort of waves you wish to ride.

I have 2 Eggs now. My first a 6’ 4" x 20 1/2" x 2 1/2", was made to ride pretty much anything I will. From waist high to double overhead.

It has a flat panel vee bottom and I rode it pretty much exlusively in Indo the 4 months I spent there last year. The Indo waves have enough push to power up that vee and don’t it feel smooth rail to rail!

A fabulous board, a rolled chine under the nose, don’t think I’ve ever caught a rail on it.

My new Egg was built after I came to the realization that I’m not a good enough surfer to ride a longboard well. This one is a 6’8" x 21 3/4" x 2 1/4". It has a big wide hang ten nose. a rounded pintail and a single to double concave bottom. It handles ankle snappers to head high waves.

Both boards have the 1 + 2 widowmaker fin setup, centre box and fcs side runners for a little more down the line drive. Thruster setup works fine too, I just like that single fin twang out of turns.

Hope that helps. I weigh 70kg an I’m 52 now, adjust the board’s dimensions according to yours.

Cheers, Simon,

Thanks! I’m getting closer to pulling the trigger. I just want it long enough for the occasional cheater 5, but short enough to turn tight. I’m 160, 5’7", over 40!, and I too like that single fin twang!
