How`d you get here?

What (or who) first directed you to Swaylocks?

Google

Fluke, I searched for surfboard design. And I must admit the name Swaylocks seemed pretty strange and irrelevant at the time. How pleasantly surprised I was to find so much shared knowledge and so many people just positively into it.

Dale, so far I see about 40 hits, but only a couple of responses. Why is this very simple question treated this way? The people reading must get some benefit from this site. Are there anonymity concerns here??? What’s the problem?

Wildy, It might be simply that they don’t exactly remember. It has been awhile since I found Swaylocks and to tell you the truth I really don’t remember. I think it might have been my son (AustinS) might have told me about it but it could have been an internet search. Not sure but I am sure glad I found it!

Found this place using google. I was amazed and inspired at all of the talent so evident in the photo sections…

SC Gary told me about Swaylocks one day when I ran into him over at the Freeline Factor.

Good Surfin, Rich

google search for “how to build a surfboard”

several of the sites I went to suggested swaylocks and

after seeing several times I checked it out.

Paul Jensen also suggested it when I asked him a few questions

about his hollows and his “How To” section of his site.

Another good thread Dale.

Not entirely clear how I discovered this site. I recall a connection between the Bruce Jones forum, Herb, and a search engine. While the site only consisted of a few posts they were refreshing in their attitude. The posters were knowledgable, willing to share, and respectful, but not given to buying into the myth of shaper as guru. In particular, I think Herb as well as Mike deserve to be noted for their efforts in setting the tone of the site early on.

For me the question is, “Why do I keep reading this site?” Perhaps it is, as many have stated in the past, an addiction. Whatever the reason, there always appears to be some new bit of information(e.g. gloss curtains) or interesting thread(e.g.mysteries).

Have fun.

My buddy Derek from SA 2003 told me about this when we were shaping our first logs. I think he heard about it from one of them new short board magazine. This website has beeen the best thing the internet has given me. thanks

Jim Phillips sent me.

A good friend, Tim Campbell, told me about a surfboard design forum. I was stoked, but remember thinking to

myself… “Swaylocks? What kind of weird name is that?”

To say the least, Ive been challenged and inspired. Swaylocks is a phenom... the best website of its kind on the internet.

Shamefully… through the then (3 years ago) and now, painfully annoying Surfer mag BB. I forget who mentioned it. (I almost never go to Surfers BB anymore - consider…recently at their design forum… Paul Jensen’s beautiful wooden fish was slammed as ugly and a bad template by some fool.)

This place is still the best surf related site on the net.

It came to me in a beam of light after speaking with my preacher friend and shaper Steve Forstall. I awakened from a dream and saw swaylocks printed on my forehead. It must have been a vision or something. The only problem is it was spelled S.6.W.6.A.6.Y. L.6.O.6.C.6.K.S. Maybe something subliminal. Steve will appreciate this one.

I don’t remember really, it was about 1 1/2 years ago, probably a google search on shaping, learned alot in that short amount of time, appreciate all the hard work and information you guys give out so willingly, I am shocked that this hasn’t turned into a circus like all the other forums usually end up. Thanks again.

I saw it mentioned (by Herb) on the shapers forum on surfline three or four years back. over the years Herb has helped me a ton with my surfboards, but turning me on to Sway’s was the best tip ever.

I’m not 100% certain, but I’m pretty sure that you referred me to this site, Dale, a couple of years ago.

I can’t remember either, but I looked up my first post was 12:44pm dec. 2, 2001. Back when life was simple, before the liberation and democracy. What do moderators do anyway?

from Tom Stern:

i was just playing around checking search results for my own site when i found some reference to swaylocks had a look and havent missed a day since (except when im not around computers) and since turned many local gold coasters over to it which im both sorry and glad about. Dave

What do moderators do anyway? Fortunately, not much…

I found this place with a “search”. Hung around for a few days before I posted a lame lecture on flex and kneeboards in a thread started by Dale…

jimmy took me in to see some liddles and then I think dale told me mat stuff wae here as well on the phone and fate sealed over and Iv’e been simmering since …ambrose …add some more salt ?
