So I have a friend, which lives no where near me, that I am thinking about buying this board from, but Im not sure if this Quad has enough in it to float me. What do you guys think, should I go for it or not. It is a Surf Prescriptions Bat Tail Quad shaped by Doc himself ; 5’-8" x 20" x 2-5/16 with an eight inch tail. I am 6’0 155-160ish experienced surfer who really wants a quad bad. I have a 6’9 Channel Islands Single fin, a Shipman 5’11 twin keel, and a lost style 6’0 3 fin fish. And I want to complete my collection of flying machines with a Cambell Bonzer and a Quad. Is it too small? Do you think its going to float me? My friend isnt much help so Im turning to the experts.
i must be the same dimensions in the body as you… im 6’ something and weigh 80 kg ,
i ride 6’1 x10 3/4 x 18 1/2x 13 5/8 x 2 3/16" as my everyday boards… (other than my guns or tow boards)
i also always keep in my quiver a 5’8" for av conditions or flight training…
in my opinion the ‘surf prescriptions’ board you mention should be more than sufficient ( in terms of “floating you”), especially as you are a more than competant surfer.
in fact, my fish is only 5’8" x 19"x 2 1/8"-(not a quad , mind . but we talkin volume here not fins) super fine rails and very low volume!!.. but the secret is all in the rocker…next to none, in the entry.
as long as you ride them right. i believe the gain in plane ( with low even entry) far outweighs any loss in bouyancy ( from an overall low total volume)
my fish can out-paddle and out-class any mal in terms of getting into small flat waves early… yes i am very fit too, but the rocker, allowing the board to ‘up-and plane’ at very low speeds. Is the real hero.
btw way… do you mean an 8" pod ( measured at 1" forward of rear), or 8" tail ( taken at 12" F.O.R)?? …assuming you mean pod… or else that is a rather radical looking board from the given dimensions eh!?
if i were you i would snatch that board up… im a big believer in those designs , and i know you’d be in for a whole stack of fun…
