How fine a grit should I go??

I am just about finished sanding my new 7,0 single fin with 100 grit. It’s looking pretty good. So, I was wondering, on a sanded finish how fine should I go with the sandpaper—150? 220? Steel wool? Baby diaper??? I want to avoid wet sanding, as I am sure I will break through (again).

I go 100, 180, and 220 grit- a combination of machine and hand sanding. Then I like to wet sand by hand with 320 using full length wise strokes (following Greg Liddles ideology of laminar flow). I find that I get a better finish sand job if, after laminating, I baste the laps and rails. Then sand all the basted areas real good before I hot coat. A minimum effort is required to finish sand if the baste/sand operation is done right. After sanding go surf. Have fun.
