how much resin for a foam stain resin tint

I’m about to stain half of my 5-6x23 mini simmons.  How much resin do you think it will take?  I guessing about 6-8 oz, but that’s a guess.  Definitely want to mix enough so the color is consistent but I don’t want to waste a whole bunch either.  Anyone have some experience and can tell me a safe amount to use.  Thanks

I am using 1 quart when glassing the bottom of a 5’6, so I guess you will be safe with half of a quart, even less for a foam stain… You could also use some styren to thin your resin and use even less, but better to be safe, you can always keep some of you uncatalysed mix for later if you think you have too much.

I did a foam stain on the bottom of a 6’2 so yesterday eps epoxy but used 250g or just over 8 oz and it was enough to almost wet out the 6oz that I put over it.

Tommorth,

Stupid question, but if you’re “wetting out 6oz” with your pigmented resin, aren’t you doing a lam pigment not a foam stain?

It’s my understanding that a foam stain is done to the foam, prior to glassing, allowing you to then glass regularly with clear glass. Maybe I’m missing something?

Haha you got me there. The plan was foam stain I mixed and slightly thickened the epoxy. Then brushed it all on and I was looking at it thinking I may as well put the cloth over it now while it’s wet I did have to mix up some clea to finish wetting it all out the foam underneath is stained black so no patchynes.

Wonder How is the OPS board stain looking
