How to build a stubby (dimensions, rockers etc)

Hey Zackoopman, liking your stubbie, looks cool, would be interested to see if you went the full s deck. If your shaping thing doesn’t work out try photography. The lighting and styling of your two pics is great, nice work. Real Aussie sunlight. Bring on summer.

Generally, you want the hull to start at the nose, peak at max depth under your front foot(middle to sligthly forward from middle), and slowly fade to flat behind the fin witha hard edge.

You may not think 1-2 in. is a big change, but it not just the widepoint that changes, it's the outline curve that changes too.

Absolutely correct, ASteve is steering you right. He knows this shape pretty well.

Thanks tblank, but i'm barely getting started learning these things, as they are pretty complex

ASteve, that's how I can tell you know/are getting to know these shapes. Way more to them than the eye first detects. And like you said, subtile changes affect the whole shape; outline, foil, bottom and top countours. Curves upon curves.

ps. I only say getting to know because it seems the learning never ends with these.

yep. they are very fun to surf(and build)...other boards feel dead and sluggish too me now

Hey P-co the deck was just simple and flat, nothing fancy I think the board almost turned out like a wayne lynch evolution board more than a stubby. Ive Been working on this template and trying to improve it, made a second version of this one but with a narrower pin tail, hard rails through the tail and a slight vee. compared to a flat bottom and soft rails on the first.

Ive also got a 6.2 stub design happening for a friend, will post it up on this wall when its done.

And yeah Ive done a little bit of photography, basically just keep a film slr in my car when i see something nice or intriguing (not that i know how to use it haha). The photos of my boards where done with a go pro, their great little things i dont use it for filming surf just as a normal camera.
