How to color over black carbon fiber

Basic rookie question.  Carbon fiber is black and in Florida, the stuff can get scorching hot.  Lots of problems with that.  I’m looking for a simple backyard way to color over or color it during the lam process.  I just can’t have a black board in the hot Florida sun.  Ideas?  Many thanks.

Is the whole Board black or just the deck?  Is it a sanded finish?  Might think about using a good mono epoxy or polyurethane marine paint . I Have painted a 12 foot SUP to cover up some repairs and it has worked great. starting to show some wear from paddle stricks and use. I used a rather inexpensive brand and don’t recomend it.  might try West Marine Brand Paint Pretty sure it’s made by innterlux. I really like is a Dutch Paint Epifanes.  Look for it at jamestown distributers  I Have rolled and tiped a 50 foot yatch with it and looked like i had dipped the Boat in a bucket of Paint. It is very scratch resistant…

You can glass with epoxy over rattle can with no problem.

Do a test panel but I have glassed over rattle can a bunch.

I like Montana Gold Cans.

YES!  excellent ideas.  I’ll probably roll on a marine finish.  I’ve done boat hulls and have a little experience with that.  I just didn’t think of that.

The Sailboard method has always been topaint with   Automotive Paint and then Clear Coat.  Obviously you vent??

Is Florida hotter than Hawaii , I have a Yater eps board with a carbon deck in Hawaii , I have had it for about 6 years , never had a problem the wax does not melt off in the 80 water nor does it melt off as I carry it home , relaxe it will be fine .

Use white opaque pigment in lam and filler resin, then paint if needed. But with a good amount of pigment ended well white with a layer of glass over carbon.

Filler coat with any color you like , then sand it back…if the black carbon shows through in places , call it hipster art…maybe get a dreadlock haircut or grow a beard.

Here is some hipster art, very popular for Sailboards and SUPs!

ya’ll are killing me.  love that hipster look.  but to the average joe it sort of looks like it fell off the car on the way to the lake.  I still might go with it though.  and yes McDing, vented with Pete’s goretex vents.  it is one pound foam.  venting essential.

all the best guys, thanks
