How to make kelly green paint...

I bought Yellow and Blue paint and mixed it up experimenting with different amounts and everything I come out with looks like something out of the army. It all has a more olive look than I want. Is there some other color to add, like white maybe? to make a brighter green like kelly green? Or do I just have to find a pre-made kelly green?

thanks,

Chris

Chris, What brand paint are you mixing? Some of the acrylic paints that are pre-mixed will come out muddy when they are mixed together. I think it’s because you probably don’t have a pure blue pigment and a pure yellow.

Try Liquitex. They have a good selection of colors, and you may find the one you need without mixing.

To go from olive green to kelly green, you need to add yellow (in theory) but olive green already has some darker tints that may interfere. Doug

depends considerably on the paint you’re using - if, for instance, you are using acrylics, go with one of the zillion or so different greens they make - see, for instance, www.utrecht.com for some of the acrylics available in tubes. They are fairly cheap, you can afford to spring for some that can have, perhaps, a little cadmium yellow added to the basic color to get that bright Kelly green you want. Maybe take a wander through your friendly neighborhood art supply house and see what they have -

hope that’s of use

I bought apple barrell water based acrylic and future floor acrylic to mix with it. I got it at Walmart, they didn’t have a shade of green that I liked, so I figured I would just mix it. I think the colors are “cobalt blue” and “bright yellow”.

Howzit chrsbrwn, I've seen Kelly Green for sale, I think it was ceramcoat paint. Aloha,Kokua
