How To Remove Acrylic Paint?

I have a board that was laminated and then painted completely with acrylic paint. Does anyone know of a good way to remove some/all of the paint? I don’t want to try and sand the whole thing because I’d probably sand too far into the weave. Should I try acetone?

Thanks!

Acetone will dissolve waterbased acrylic paint. If it has some sort of clear coat over it I don’t know how that will go, but straight acylic will liquify pretty fast. But take note: it’s possible that the acetone will soften up the resin along the way, so it’s best to use it in minimal amounts.

Thanks Doug, I’ll give the Acetone a try (sparingly)…

Lacquer thinner. It will definatly get rid of the paint and will not soften the resin. I am assuming the paint was applied on the sanded hotcoat and not on a raw lam coat. Acetone may create new problems.

Acetone worked very well with no noticable effects to the PE lam. Quite hard to get the little paint that was left in the sanding scratches though!
