How would multiple stringers affect a shortboard?

I own and have seen several longboards with mulitple stringers, of course, but never a shortboard. I am having a new shortboard made, seven foot, tri fin, high performance shape, and was wondering what three stringers would do, other than add weight and stiffness. Would it be more or less responsive, or would it just be different? Would it be stronger or break easier?

multiple stringers will make it stiffer and heavier. For a cosmetic effect without the weight why not go for resin lines. they are quite effective

I was actually wondering about performance. Would it be faster, slower, more or less responsive, etc?

I don’t know about faster but It would be heavier (stronger) they look awesome.

Yeah, they’re not really needed on shortboards like they are on much longer boards. On the longer boards it’s a support/strength issue. Another reason why you don’t see triple stringers on shortboards is $$$. They’re really expensive to order that way. If you don’t mind spending a little extra cash, I would be inclined to try three 1/16" cedars on a 7’0. It’s 3/16" total wood, which is the amount I usually use for that size, but just distributed out for added support.

I don’t think 1/16" of wood, as a stringer would do anything to give strenth to a board. 3/16" ,total will. 1/8" is scetchy.

I dont know about how it would effect performance, probobly notta lot unless yout really bustin airs or carvin like a mofo , but woul ddefenatly look pretty Nice… i say try it and let us all knwo wha tyou think of it

…It would make a shortboard more sluggish is smaller surf. …I painted brown/tan wood lines on a shorty once,no one could tell.To this day the owner still thinks it’s a multi-tri-stringered board…maybe I’ll tell him today. It’s like 3 years old and I just got it back for fin repairs yesterday.Herb …ps.I didn’t charge for the extra falsa wood either.
