nice board looks realy nice
Heres where it started. I asked a friends son if he wanted to help. So why not build 2 at once. (what was I thinking).
the board looks fantastic Dontask.
what kind of wood is that? it’s beautiful.
by the way, what is the white?
The wood is 3mill saple plywood. The rails are divinacell foam and the frame is 4mill okume plywood. 4oz and rr epoxy top and bottom. Then the white is awlgrip, then awlgrip clear for the gloss. Still having a hard time with pics. but I will try to post some of the construction
Here is a shot of putting the ribs on I use a square block of scrap with a rubber band to hold them at right angles to the stringer. I cut the corner off the block so it does not get stuck to the epoxy. I use west epoxy for the building and rr for glassing.
Beautiful! (I wish I could sya that about the waves around here). The grain in unbelievable. How did you find that? Is it common with “sapele” to have a cut like that? Anyways, congrats.
Very nice work ! . . . it’s actually an HCB by the way (Hollow Composite Board)… . there’s Divinicell in there !
But really, great board, looking forward to seeing the HWB one with balsa rails.
dontask,
Don’t know which is better…
The board or the shop…
I’m envious of both…nice job.
Pete
Here is a shot of the bottom skin going on. The square blocks are just to hold the stringer straight (hot melt glue) then removed after the glue kicks. The foam on the first rib is a little extra glue surface to hold the concave. I leave the nose and tail run wild for now because I like to take my time and make sure they come out right.
Say hi to my assistant Igor
After the skins are on I have been adding a 3mill or 4mill layer of plywood. It makes a nice rabbit to capture the plywood edge. Then add the foam rail material.
tailblock
On this board I sealed it with epoxy. Just enough to squeege around. A little can go a long way. I think it really helped when glassing. I also think it saved a little weight over all.
Wood sealed … Then I sealed the foam with epoxy and west mircolite filler
Last post 4 this board. Just wanted to show the vents(5) that a Friend made me. He owns a machine shop so this kind of stuff is easy 4 him. There is a small grove in the threads fore about 1/2 of the length. 2 turns out it breathes just snug and its tight. ( I hope) So far so good…
Also I wanted to say how much I appreaciat this site… What a boatload of info!! I found it when I was about half way thru my first board. What a difference it made. It was just about when Bert B posted that thread about compsand construction. Wow… my mind is still working on that one. Finless longboards, hydrofoil boards.ect.ect. alot of great stuff. A big thanx to P Jenson. You are definatley responsible for all this hwb maina. I hope its good for you. I only see it getting better and biger. Anyway its 1 more hwb for me and then I think some eps and veneer or balsa. Dust off the old vac pump… Heres to endless R&D.
Later Mike
Posting pics can be a real pain sometimes… no more on this one unless someone asks a ?
