After looking for a while for a really good longboard, craftsmanship and shape being the priorities, I finally settled on the Cooperfish Nosedevil. It’s an amazing board. I stare at it for hours, feeling it, marveling at the shape and the quality. I have never seen a board that was put together so well. It’s amazing. To take a good look at it, go to cooperfishsurfboards.com and click on Boards for Sale. Then, scroll to the bottom and look at the Board Archives section. Then, click on the 10,1 nosedevil, lime color. That’s my board. It’s so nice I can’t stand it. The Velzys, Takayamas, Hobies, and Carsons looked good too, but they can’t compare to the Cooperfish. If only every board manufacturer put this kind of detail into their boards.
Yaaawn
But Mike…does it GO?!
Will it hang in the livingroom or the office?
We are all glad that you love to look at it and it feels good under your arm . One dimensional machine shape.
Each day when I pull up Dale’s website http://neumaticsurfcraft.homestead.com/NeumaticSurfcraftwebsite.html I look at the shiny new mats and wonder “Will my bag look just like that? Will I be able to get rides just like in the picture? Will I attain the speed that other owners have experienced?” I close my eyes and dream of speed and flying just like George Greenough across the verdant face of the wave. Every morning I awake refreshed knowing that someday soon I will have a custom Neumatic surfcraft under me as I streak across countless waves that no one else can ride. Thank you Dale for the dream.
Shapers truly are artists. I write a little bit on the craftsmanship of my new Cooperfish, and I get a bunch of jealous responses. No, you’re not jealous that I own it (you could buy one too). The jealousy runs deeper than that. It’s an artist’s jealousy that I detect. My shaper gets the same way. He can’t stand that I have boards other than his. I try to tell him (patting his ego) that he is the best, but still he can’t understand why I don’t get his boards exclusively. He, like the folks who responded negatively to my post, have little to say that is positive in terms of other shapers. We critisize that which intimidates us. So, to you guys who get all bent out of shape about my enjoyment of my new board, it’s okay. You guys are good shapers too. Don’t be jealous. By the way, it goes very well, thank you. Much better than I expected. Smoothest ride I ever had. It’s perfect! And it doesn’t hang on the wall of my livingroom/restaurant or office. It hangs on a hook out in the garage (when it’s not in the water), along with my other boards from a variety of shapers (including myself, Craig Hollingsworth, Rod Sorenson, Morey Boogie, and a KKL machine up on Westlake Avenue). And I love all my boards (except the 7,0 I made for myself. That’s a log). If you don’t have anything positive to say, then stuff a rag in your mouth and get back to work.
Obtenez au-dessus de vous-même. translated: Get over yourself.
Enjoy your new board and don’t listen to what these dopes say on this site.
You are experiencing something only an owner of a cooperfish can feel. I’m a 2nd time owner, bought another because of the quality of craftmanship and the RIDE. I have friends that have ridden tyler, takayama, and other name longboards and now ride gene’s shapes, in fact one is a nosedevil. I picked up my board a week ago and am hesitant to put wax on it because of the finish that is put on the board. Not a single ripple, dimple, or wave in the glowing gloss coat. The archive pictures at his site are worth a thousand words, but picking up one and viewing the attention to detail put into these sticks with your naked eye provides instant stoke. When I take out my new stick, I guarantee that others will stop me to ask what i’m riding, in and out of the water. I understand your stoke, too bad others in the forum can’t just be stoked for you instead of degrading. Have fun on your new stick.
I bought a used stinger/fish off the web. It has fractures , a crack near the fin, a dumb looking “stomp pad”. I paid $250. Dingable without angst. I’m having a blast on it! AND people stop me and say, “wow, that’s exactly what I’m looking for”, or “what a cool looking board-I bet it’s fast”. A famous builder evn told me how he should consider such a fun looking board for his stable of offerings. I forgot - or maybe I just never had it in me - to email the surf world that I bought it and how happy I am to have such a thing. Cheap too!
You guys have me realy excited. I pick up my Cooperfish in two weeks. I’m just hopeing that I’m as stoked with mine as you guys are with your. I have one of Genes , new models. I think it is called whatthehellisthat. Or somethink like that. Big bucks though.
Good post! Wrong Bulletin Board! Try www.longboard.net. That’s all they seem to talk about (Cooperfish that is).
i guess what you are describing and proud of has its place (like an art gallery) i just don’t get that vibe from swaylocks. seems to me the people here don’t care so much as to the look as to the ride. gene seems like a super nice guy. i hear great things about his boards. gene sounds like a perfectionist. my guess is that gene shapes his boards to be ridden not looked at. i am not making fun or degrading your love of this board, but i just can’t find the stoke in what you are describing. i can and do find the stoke in when that fella who shaped the edgy hull describes how it hangs up there and turns and performs…not how it looks or what the guy in the speedo on the sad said about it when he walked by. my two cents.
Plenty of people out there who still get stoked on a nice looking board bro. Theres alot of jaded backyard shapers on here who have lived with the reality of flawed self shaped surfboards (check out the picture archive for some ugly stuff). Get out there and ride that thing and forget about the negativity that regularly rears it ugly head on most message boards in the web world.
The point is that the stoke is a result when form AND function reach the same apex. I’m talking about praise and comment from fellow surfers at my local break, not some dude in speedos. Why are you assuming that any comment from a non-surfer would have any impact?

If only every board manufacturer put this kind of detail into their boards. Think about it- every creature that occupies the atmosphere, water and land have flexible and resilient forms. They follow natural paths which are characterized by fluidity of motion. At our best, we can only hope for the same. The air surrounding us is always moving, and the waves we love are made up of constantly shifting, curving, textured, undulating, spiraling energy. There is a timeless elegance and beauty in adapting to the environment around us. Those who are wise seek speed, power and control through the ways of least resistance. Observe nature and learn. It all makes perfect sense. But if you get turned-on over something thats rock hard stiff, has decals on glassy smooth surfaces and never changes it
s shape, go buy a handcrafted wood rocking chair and park your fat ass in front of the big screen tv.
Well, I was just sharing my stoke. That’s all. But some of you are grumpy, mean, jaded, or whatever. YOU DON’T SEEM TO ENJOY LIFE. That’s your problem. As for me. I’M STOKED. I like all my boards, including my body board and Churchills. I love the smell of my new wetsuit and old wetsuit. I love the smell of surf wax. And I love the look of my new board that was made by a perfectionist. Nothing wrong with that, is there? Now, the people who provide negative feedback should consult with a psychologist to get to the root of the negativity. Maybe your mom didn’t love you. I don’t know. Maybe you were held back in first grade and it scarred you mentally. Perhaps your brother or sister got all the glory from the family and you were ignored. Hard to say, but something has made you negative. Probably, as I said before, just jealousy. Not everyone can make a board like a Cooperfish. I know I can’t. Keep dreaming and keep practicing. You’ll get it. PS. If function were the only trait, then whey do we have different colored cars? Shouldn’t they all be the same color? Clothes keep us warm (function) and protected. So why don’t they all come in tan colors? Perhaps beauty has a place in this world afterall. Just my thoughts. I’ll let it go now. Thanks
Cheer up man it’s FRIDAY! Laugh it off and go be happy…
