I finally got alaia'd

cough cough

paulownia, salvaged redwood, basswood…mostly scraps left over from other projects

rip that chit…

arrange it…

clamp it…

keeping each panel in 2 pieces so that I can put it through the 12" planer

hogged out the proud sticks with the scrub plane…wood worked

This is going to be a 7’, a couple 5-6’…one with convex outline and the other with a little concave through the tail…and then one panel will probably be split in to two little paipo/handgun thingies…all for me and my brothers.

the thickness planing is done, now to clamp the full panels together…

completed panels…probably going to be 3 alaias and two paipo

Nice clamps!

Have you ever succesfully riden a similarly sized alaia?  For me they are fun to belly ride on, but friggin impossible to stand up.

all prone all the time…these are summer body surf cheaters

lots of little burrrrrels…

ka mon ya wann alaia

Love these threads. Kinda looks like my shop when checkin out the pics. You guys prolly won’t believe it but IF you keep takin that plank to the water, one day, when you least expect it, you will automatically stand. Bet it puts an inside out smile on your face too.

Yee ha!

setup to plug the nail holes in the salvaged wood with a little epoxy…

3 alaias, 2 handboards, 2 handplanes…gifts for friends and family (and myself, of course!)

at the mayor’s place now for some marine varnish and additional finish detail…still gotta sort out a hand attachment for the handguns.

very sweeeeet.......

Wow! They All look awesome! Good work putting all the off-cuts to work too! Some of my favourite surfcraft have come from off-cuts!
