kendog,
i don't know if the polyprop foam will take the thinner ?
but the bagging is a good bet !

had fun today tearing the bottom off that thing
I think I used a random orbital when I did that BZ Doyle. It had the older type of skin with a very thin top layer that was all cracked and peeling. I might have finished the surface with a big block and floor sanding paper. Don’t recall.
the bottom skin was a 1/8" sheet of polyP sheet foam with a hard skin on one side.
it wasnt glued to the blank ,, more like heat and compression
it was hard to pull off the skin off untill we cut it in strips with a razor blade
should of taken pics,,,, sorry
it might have broken your camera..........lol.
ya........... the hydroturf is a go.
going to replace the stringer with a t-band made of a top grade rock table maple.
oh ya,
there is a stringer in it ............made of the cheapest plywood money could buy.
it was fractured two thirds down the stringer .
what a pool toy.............lol.
herb
the deck and rails for the most part are clean.
the interior foam was like new.
the stringer(cheap ass thing)was snapped.
the bottom was toast.
the bottom is gone and plan on replacing the stringy today.
going to hydroturf the bottom with a grooved ,dessert camo, turf.
the hydroturf is what i intro-ed to the surf world like 6 years ago.it's what you see on all the sups now.
hydroturf floats more than it's weight.
it's waterproof.
and has a tighter cell form than most foams.
i can then coat the bottom with urethane...........if i so desire.
i might add h.t. to the deck as well for traction/more float.
after all this is accomplished,i have several fins to play with ,thanks to tom okeefe over at daum tooling(red-x fin systems).
definately want to ride the sucker.
it's 5' x 22", a 18-1/4" nose , 18-1/2" tail,and about 3" thick (or will be after i add the hydroturf).
wing/bump.........kinda swallow thing,pool toy.
herb
this nels from lmnop bodyboards?
Sorry, not me...although I hardly know what I am doing these days, I'd remember that. Certainly the job part.
Rob DiStephano built me a soft kneeboard over a decade ago that has proven to be almost bombproof. In fact just about the only problem with it now is a bottom that is crackling up pretty much like Herb's find. But it took about 11 years of hard use to do it. All seams etc. are still solid, so any advice Rob gave out is probably good advice.
nels,
this one will definately be use as a kneeboard and stander.
stringer is in the haus.......glued in with thinned-out lino-glue.........
the hydroturf has a sticky/nasty 3m peel back adhesive, that's probably good enough on it's own ,but for extra measure i'm going to douse the bottom with 3m spray 90.
i'll wait to get together with ken when i put the bottom on,as i'd like to bag it after i set it in place.
then it's a polyurethane coat for flow.
i think i'll name it, "hotrod pooltoy"...........lol.
herb
well the hotrod pooltoy is finished !
looks killer and is good to go ,whoo-ya !
it came out better than i planned................that always stokes me !
herb
maybe i can get kensurf to take some pics..........if he's not to busy.
herb
tuesday evening
that's affirmative.
herb
thanks ken !
i'll probably pool hop it today ........justa see how it floats in fresh water.
i got hopes for this thing.
my hotrod pooltoy..........yeah!

mission acomplished

pool tested it today................floats and paddles like a 7.5' in polyester,or better.
it has weight so it planes effortlessly...........or is it the grooves ?
this is definately going to the skunkworks for more testing.
can't wait to ride it.
herb
It’s funny how stoked you are on this toy. If you want to go finless, you can just flip it over and you already have traction.
I ordered some of these plugs for my 4-yr-old’s bodyboard that I’m going to reshape:
nice ghosty,
i'm going to make my jet tubes for it so it can become an induction board as well.
i'll have to check-up on those boxes.thanks!
i have a plan !
herb
no comments from the peanut gallery?
i guess everyone is speechless.....lol.
btw...............it's rides outrageous........in small to moderate surf, and airs too boot!
herb
It's hard to see from the photos, how deep are the channels/grooves on the bottom?
about 1/4-3/8" hicks.
wanna ride it ?
it is now my fav. shorty...............lol..........a sponge........lol.
