Remember board #2. The one I said I was going to glass clear? It isn’t clear anymore. My first attempt at an abstract, my second attempt at glassing a board. I think I bit off more than I can chew. Epoxy/EPS

snjsurfer-
WAIT!!! you can save it! get yourself a water-based black tipped marker. Outline each color with
the pen. You will be very surprised how ‘stain-glassing’ your abstract will make it pop and look cool.
See if you can get one of those pens/markers or even some water-based artist latex and a fine brush…
Please post any results…
…don’t be bummed, Bro. See it as an opportunity.
did the same thing to my second board too. Just dont try and add extra paint… or resin tent to cover any of it up - outlining and a little extra small touch up does go a long way. There is alot worse stuff out there, doesnt look like you did anything to make it a bomb. pretty good for #2
WOAUW!
Nice colors, nothing wrong with that.
Wish I could do that with epoxy.
Looks like a perfect abstract.
Real artists don’t get the credits in their lifetime.
Think about the shock the surfers in the lineup will have when they see you smack the lip!
They surely will notice you.

Man, that looks great, whats the prob?
Theres always a way of hiding something, and making it look like you meant to do it
I like it.
Leave it alone…
or… go with Plusone and add highlights. You did not mess up a perfectly good board.

Hell yeah! I think it looks great as is. Just say you put your heart and soul into it and it turned out exactly as planned. The hippie chicks down the street are sure to appreciate it for the work of art that it is.
Aint nothing wrong with that if that’s what you like.
I’m not giving up on it. I learned alot from this so its not a failure. I will see this through to the end for sure. I guess its not as bad as I thought the more I look at it. Im not even too disappointed in the colors, although the ‘red’ wound up being pink. Im more upset that it mudded out on the tail of the board. I kept the squeegee spotless, but at the end of the pull with other colors on the board it seems unavoidable. I have some ideas for the next board to help prevent it, and I think they will work. I’m been studying other peoples work on here and its been really getting my mind going on how to do this in epoxy. It may not ever be as good as poly, but there as to be a way to get it closer.
Tons of respect to the ones who have mastered this in any medium. Perhaps one day I will be worthy too.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
THAT BOARD IS HOT!!!
if you choose to ‘outline’ colors
remain as free in your rendering of the shapes
I.E. dont try to follow the outlines too close
when you do it that way you lose the apeal of the
gesture of the free running flow of the color-scape.
The roscach effect of this coloration
sets the mind free
and allows shape associating
identifying underlying
hidden truths.
look for awhile and the answers will reveal them selves
quick run over and outline the thought forms
and dreams rising to the surface
see the rabbit?
see old daves cabrolet?
see the dog?
is that the lobster road kill ?
aw shux snj
this board is so cool
dig it like a supermodel in a wierd dress
pretty soon you will only feel
the small of her waist
while you are slow dancing in the moonrise…
…ambrose…
I’ve said it before
the greatest board in the known universe…
And I wil say it again and again
with impunity.
(I love that word)
I think it looks pretty cool. How it rides is the most important thing. Back in the day when I was a (deluded) hotshot sponsored AM, I used to let the glasser/artist have a go and do whatever art he was feeling that day. Got everything from cool to interesting t0 I’ll-keep-this-in-a-boardbag-and-ride-it-during-twilight-sessions-only artwork!
I gotta agree with everyone else on this one, get yourself a Posca and start makin’ that thing pop… or maybe several contrasting colors? Definitely post some pics whatever you do.
the 'red' wound up being pink.-Jon
A friend of mine told me pink always made him surf better, said it was all in his head anyway. I told him that was more than I needed to know and still paddle a way from the dude.
naw, don’t worry. I saw many guys in pink last year, well maybe one.
Just go rip it up in the surf and shape another one!
Hey Bro,
Ever shaped the pink XPS?
Remember generation X in the eighties?
Colors should SCREAM!
The world is boring enough…
that’s freaking cool…
what’s the prob??? go surf it!
we all like it. so should you.
I thought the thread title was sarcastic.
The board looks great. Leave it alone - go surfing
I’ve been thinking of what I want to do with this thing. I don’t want to get too excited quite yet, but I think I mentioned I come from an automotive finish background and my father still owns a couple auto body shops. I thinking I might have to stop by and let his pin striper have a go at it. While I’m there I think a high gloss urethane clearcoat would like nice too.
Any one have ideas for the deck inlay? Should I keep it clear and let the pin liner go crazy? Should I continue the abstract on the deck?
-Jon
Stupid mistake by me. I must have forgot red tint + white foam = pink resin. I honestly thought I had the red dark enough to overpower the white background. Boy was I wrong.

The one in pink was a world champion.
Good thing about making your own board is learning about yourself and others, you even get a new stick out of the deal. If you really don’t like pink that much give it to your girlfriend or sister or mom as a present and make another.
I am not picky about colors usually but I do get strict about something I make and dont stick your head in the sand because a red tint lightened up on your board.
You can still surf it like a man. I don’t think the waves will be running from you either.
Make no mistake that is no mistake
Love it !!
Cheers
