this probably soundsreally stupid to everyone but the book im using shows to glass the first layer of the deck to meet the bottom layer rather than wrap around the rails. do i put both top layers around the rails? also do u do it in one go, like lay out both layers of cloth then pour resin on it or do u put the resin on top of the first layer then do the same for the second? sorry to ramble. cheers
Hi, how is it in NZ? I would wrap the rails with the top layer of glass only on the deck ( also wrap the rails with the single layer on the bottom ). And it is correct to lam both layers at once thats is set out both layers of dry glass then apply resin. As a supplement to that book you have there is a article on glassing done by Con done years ago that is still quite nice, Ill see if I can find the link for you later. Where do you surf in NZ?
heres the link, im sure more knowledgable peop;e than myself will also have some tips. http://www.viser.net/~anthwind/Building/ConBoard/conboard.html
yea thats how we use to do it once upon a time what a hassle to cut the glass for the bottom of the 2 deck layers to meet the edge of the bottom lap…just do it this way … wrap your lap from the bottom … when doing the deck put one layer on and cut by running your scissors around your bottom edge,so your first deck layer wont wrap around then put another layer on and cut it so you get a lap on your second deck layer …then laminate both layers together in one hit …ps wrapping 2 layers of cloth at once is a head ache… regards BERT
Soory so late… but i found last responce the bestway, cept when cutting first cloth layer i hold cloth out horizontal cause it sticks to bottom laps then cot close to rail edge. Lap toplayer of course. One thing though, make sure bottom lap is either wellsmoothed down or paint on band of resin or u will get bubbles along lap edge. goodluck
