Brian, I’m 6’2", 210 +/-, 37, been surfing 23 years. A guy in Maryland who I know a little bit has a 7’4" and its too much for him…so he’s shipping it to me & getting a 6’8 or so. Before I asked for it, he talked to the guys who make 'em & bring 'em in…and they said the 7’4" would be good for me.
I’m going away for a couple weeks, so I won’t have it for a month or so…but judging from what they told me, you’re looking at the right size for yourself as well.
I am almost the same dimensions as you and have two Nuggets (one single and one thruster). Geoff has told me that for roughly my size the smallest Nugget I could easily surf would be a 6’8"x21"x17"x15". My single fin is 7’ and my thruster is 6’10". If you are a good paddler I would recommend going as short as you can with a Nugget. The shorter they are the more fun they are. Just decide on the length you want as the widths seem to be locked into whatever length you choose. Geoff doesn’t play around much with the width/thickness parameters for any given length. You can’t add length and slim it down to keep the same volume and still have what Geoff calls a Nugget- the longer you choose the more volume you will get. Solosurfer would be able to give you good advice on this as he has a fair bit of experience with Nuggets I think.
Same experience as the other guys you can go a lot shorter than you think…
I had never ridden shorter boards than a 7’6" mostly longboards for 20 years but fancied a change so ordered a 7’6" single Nugget last year… great board but lots of volume and paddled pretty much as well as a 9ft.
I played way too safe went too long and didn’t have the feel I was looking for so I sold it and have a new 6’8" single on the way… Geoff is very helpful and will take the time to explain if you call him
By the way I found Nuggets incredibly easy to ride backhand compared to other boards why is that?
Here are some shots of Geoff Now and when he was young and looked like Hercules. Also a few boards. Started shaping in 1964. Do the math…a long ass time.
