I’m shaping a surfboard for a school project. I’m lookin to shape a modern shortboard, around 6’2"and 18 1/4" wide with a squash tail. Thanks in advanceAny suggestions about thickness, nose and tail widths, and rocker??
buy a Clark Foam blank shaped around 6’3-6’5", and you will have all the dimensions you need…
If you go with styro, just hit a shop and look at the boards…lots of different styles (specs) out there.
Is this your first shaping project?
If so, definately go with a clark foam - and use the dimensions it already has if you arent looking for anything specific.

Yes Clark Foam blanks are easy to shape - the rocker is pretty much built in.
If youre not being graded on creativity, the easiest way to make a good outline is by using an existing board as a template. Take a good board and simply lay it over the blank and VERY carefully and evenly trace the outline on the blank with a dark soft pencil.
Simple hand tools (mini block plane, sureform, 2x4 sanding block, sanding paper & screen) can be purchased at home depot but shaping without a good set of shaping stands will be challenging.
