make a video to replace the Futures Fin video on youtube to help consumers that purchase their kit.
That video on youtube is terrible. It doesn’t explain or say that fin boxes will be deeper than others. for example 1/4 box and 1/2 box.
The router bit is so tough to adjust when the router collar is on the darn thing.
Why can they make a mark on the bit so that people like me, can plug the bit in and then tighten it and then just use the collar to make changes when I have to route a 1/4" or 1/2" box.
Instead they have some tedious process that doesn’t even let people know that, “hey, btw bro…you have to adjust the bit again when you have to route that 1/2” box ok"…
Not sure if I’m missing what you’re saying here but you shouldn’t need to adjust your bit once it’s set at the correct place in your laminate trimmer…you simply drop the provided spacer into the jig to route the shallower slot. Maybe you didn’t buy the jig? Maybe you did but didn’t work out the little plastic spacer?

hey Rich, I followed the directions to the T but the directions only allow the shorter box. I use the donut that they’ve included but it still only cuts for the 1/2" box. Sorry, I meant 1/2 and 3/4 boxes. Am I missing anything here? What do I have to do to cut the remaining 1/4 for the 3/4" boxes?
I think you have managed to miss something there. Take a close look in the bottom of the black ring part of the jig. There should be a clear plastic spacer that’s a 1/4" thick resting in the bottom…it will be in side that the trimmer fits in when you are cutting the slot. Mine fits in real tights if you received it assembled then you may not have realised it comes out. May need prizing out or a little tap on a hard surface. When it’s removed you will be able to reinsert the trimmer into the ring and cut your deeper slots. Once you have that sorted it’s a piece of cake.

check it out, here’s what I did per the instructions. BTW, I did not get the a spacer.
This is the 1/2 finbox.
This finbox is the 3/4" box.
This is the one that did not fit in the rout. I was able to cut the shallower rout and then the deeper one, but the actual 3/4" box did not fit. There’s probably another 3/16" that needs to be routed. I’m just going to lift the router bit to adjust for that 3/16".
Hey Gnarly, the part you seem to missing is labelled as no.6 in the attached pic - it sits inside no.5 when you are doing the shallower cut for the 1/2" boxes. Just check that its not already in there - like I mentioned before mine is a tight fit so if you were not aware it is removeable you may have one in there and not noticed. If its missing just contact the supplier.

Stingray, thank you. Much respect to the person who made the video but the person’s voice sounds like he’s in a hurry. My only complaint about that is that they take the time to explain everything.
Thanks 3rdshade. I do have #6 and will use it next time I rout for the 1/2 boxes. I thought that I was supposed to use the #7 spacer from earlier posts. I hurried home to look for it and couldn’t find it in the box. Maybe I misplaced it or something but it doesn’t sound like that’s the one I need and instead need #6 for the 1/2 boxes. But my misunderstanding is that if I didn’t use #6 to rout for 1/2 boxes, then the bit’s placement should be setup for the 3/4 boxes. Why then didn’t the 3/4 boxes fit?
hmmm, I’m doing something wrong coz everyone’s been giving me great advice / ideas as to what I may be missing. Maybe I put too much #8 on both sides of the #3 to level it out that the full rout didn’t go thru. hmmm…maybe that’s it!?
