Nice board, especially being #1. By the plug you must be a goofy foot. Given the wetsuit factor I would have gone thick too.
I have seen a couple of Carl White’s boards. He does some nice work. But, you are correct, once you start to build it is hard to stop.
You have an excavator!!! I am wiring a small detached cabin and will need, sometime in the spring, both a trench for wiring and for a connection to the existing septic. Do you ever get up towards Nanaimo. Now you can get even with me and say you don’t have time.
Actually, I’m a regular footer, figured the leash would be behind my heel and out of the way… no problems so far. I made a leash loop, which failed, so I put in a plug after that pic was taken.
Nanaimo’s a pretty long haul with a 14-ton trailer behind my pickup… Don’t count me out though; let me know when you’re going to start. If I was having a slow month I’d seriously consider it (if it was at least a full day’s work that is).
Patrick… that’s pretty neat to hear about that birch bark canoe. I once checked out a book on making one and even found a massive birchtree on our (old) property to use, but never got around to it. Went cedar strip instead. But I heard they flex really nice, and are a rush to use in whitewater. I guess the museum doesn’t want to store them under water as is tradition. Are you just going to epoxy it to preserve it?
Othere thing is, I heard wiring. I’m a journeyman electrician, and if you’re still looking for someone to do the wiring(if you’re not doing it yourself…) I might want to see if we could work something out in a wiring-for0a0board sor of way. PM me if you’re interested.
I think I have the electric covered, but thanks for the offer. Perhaps on the next project.
The canoe will have some parts replaced, relashed, and the gaps resined. The resin, however, will be pine or spruce rosin with a bit of grease added as a tempering agent. The rocker table will be a dip in the ground. The vacuum bag will be rocks. Old technology but reminds me of the epoxy/poly talk.
for my heat box I went as simple as i could, just a frame from 1x2’s i had kicking around and 2" eps glued together and filled all the seams with silicone. went to the pet store and got two ceramic heat lamps for reptile cages and put one in each end. One will keep the box about 30 C and two will go up to 40-45 C depending on room temp.I am just finishing up a board and will post some pics along with the box, although my stuff isn’t nearly as good as a lot of the stuff you see on here.
