India ink or acrylic pigment applied with a pen nib?

India ink or acrylic pigment:

I know we’ve been talking about posca pens, krylon spray paint, and refillable felt tip pens when applying paint or ink onto a sanded finish surfboard.

Anybody ever try a pen nib (those interchangeable fountain pen metal things) when applying india ink?

I want to do some fine scale doodling. I’m going to sand 150 grit, draw, re-sand, then use Krylon acrylic coat over it.

Any input?

Have you tested the ink for “non-runniness” as it were - once it has the acrylic sprayed on? That seems to be the only question. If it’s “fast” then it should be fine.

Hey Sidestreet,

I have found that caligrapher’s ink will work very nicely on a surface sanded with 400 wet dry paper. You have to make sure you let the ink dry thoroughly (takes about a half and hour, where posca pen application dries in just a few minutes) but it works very nicely. It’s an excellent way to personalize something or put a signature on under a gloss coat.

I should have put 2 + 2 together from Master Kokua’s old threads on this subject.

Off to the art store to buy a rapidograph pen…
