in the most recent surfers journal there was a brief description of an inflatable paddleboard…very interesting huh? i know inflatable mats are available, but i was wondering…has anyone ever considered or made or heard of or…an inflatable stand-up surfboard? intersting concept. i wonder if it is possible. and if possible how??? such creative minds here, i figured you would have some insight.

Hey, I think Dale mentioned something about working on one awhile back. How about it Dale? Or is it to secert to spill?
Hey, I think Dale mentioned something about working on one awhile back. > How about it Dale? Or is it to secert to spill? Currently, specific questions may best be directed to Hawaiian businessman, Mr. Robert Simms, owner/operator of Big Island tents. I
m very pleased to be a part of Bob
s ongoing inflatable surfboard project… a unique design effort that could eventually offer far-reaching applications and benefits. Robert Simms (kumulani@turquoise.net) Big Island tents (http://www.bigislandtents.com/)

I have Been working on inflatable surfboard prototypes for the last 4years . with varied sucess. Thanks to the help of Dale Solomonson and Tom Morey the latest prototype should be in the water in a couple of weeks .this one will work almost like a regular board. if you are interested in more information contact me at my E-mail address Bob Simms

bob – you mean inflatable stand up boards actually work? can you tell us > more? are they more closely related to surf mats or surfboard? have you > thought about making a hybrid surf/paddleboard? It’s not the same kind of thing but I’ve had a windsurfing board in wich you had to pump air into before you could surf with the thing. The board was completely hollow and made of honeycomp epoxy, without the air pressure the board felt kind of soft, you could press dents in it with your hand I rememember the over pressure was the biggest problem, so the bigger the waves/chop the more pressure from your feet on the deck. This killed the board actually, but it was a light and very fast board.( R.I.P ) (should have pumped it with Helium when it was o.k this would have made it a light trip, for non smokers only) Peter Rijk

think you could have surfed the thing in waves? Surfed yes, but I,m afraid the crushing impact of a wave would have killed it to. If you can make it seamless and have some kind of pressure valve in it so it can release the pressure with the impact it might work however. Make sure there’s a strong frame inside it to. Good luck Peter Rijk.

Yes, the boards I’m developing are stand up surfboards . they really work and there compact enough to stuff in to a backpack. they are actually half way between a surfmat and a surfboard. I’ll post some pictures in the near future Also I have a inflatable paddleboard but that is a different project. Bob
do you have a rough estimate on the expense of these inflatable boards???
do you have a rough estimate on the expense of these inflatable boards??? I’ve spent many thousands of dollars developing these prototypes. but the consumer cost should be lower than what a nonmal board costs.Probably around two hundred dollars and hopefully on the market by spring. Bob
