Info on old Island Surfboard

ahoy swayfam,

I found a board and was wondering if anyone had any info on the Island brand. I’m fixing it up at the moment because I thought it was pretty cool. I’m guessing it is from the late 70’s or early 80’s but not sure. Any info on this board would be appreciated. I live in RI. Not sure where the brand is from.

Puerto Rican label owned by Monty Smith. He did most of the shaping. Ronnie Mellott shaped a few and did most of the glassing and finish work. In business from roughly 1970 to 1979.

Hey SammyA thanks man.  That is pretty cool to know that it is from Puerto Rico.  I appreciate the info!

Ronnie Mellott was a big name in Virginia Beach for a while. IMO still is.

cool thanks.    It is a 5’4 and I honestly didnt think I would be able to ride it.  But it is fun to surf so I decided to fix it up.  Flat rocker, flat deck (rail to rail), and down rails.  double bump rounded-ish pin.  I always wanted a real twin fin.  I’m pretty stoked!
