I’ve just picked up an old Skip Frye 10’ probably 4" thick in the middle and weighs 35-40lbs
it has a triple stringer (though the middle stringer just looks like two thinner stringers glued together)
pinched 50/50 nose
full 50/50 mid
downturned harder edge tail
planshape is frye template with pointed nose but square tail
triple red/black wing lam on the deck (decreasing in size)
pencil wings on the bottom
it has been very well used and not taken very good care of
I can barely make out “HEE NALU” on the stringer and “487” right below it on the foam
can anyone help me with when this board was made
I’d like to do a full resoration, clean it up and put it back out on the water
Thanks
According to “Stoked-n-Board”, Frye s/n 429 through 642 are of vintage 1992 and were made in Mission Beach (assuming the number isn’t prefixed “PBE”, which would put it somewhere in 1988-90). Although, this notation is included: “Numbers with a numerological significance or mathematical combinations of the number ‘7’ may have been reserved for special boards and may be out of sequence”. Ha! The “wings” logo looks to be Frye’s standard, don’t know how often it was used this way. That’s all the info I have, sorry…

great!!!
thanks for the info
boy, it sure looks older than that…
already started on the restoration, the fin was replaced by a real hack
plus the foam around the fin is almost completely wet
oh well

Hey, maybe it’s one of the “special significance” sticks. It also looks like the total volume under that label wasn’t all that high. Just be glad that the Fryes were into numerology and not another branch of the occult. After all, it just wouldn’t do to be the owner of a “ouija board” :->
