I have a friend that has a Gary Propper Pintail in fairly good condition. It has the detachable fin with a screw that is almost 2 inches long. I have pictures but unfortunately they are approximately 160kb, larger than allowed in swaylocks. If I can find a different camera I will post them here. At any rate we were interested in finding out further information about the board, the history behind it and any info, anyone can provide. The board has “38045” written on the stringer and of course the Gary Propper logo followed by Model and Hobie.
Thanks to all in advance from Boynton Beach, Florida
I would say 1968 or so. Not sure, but I remember seeing those Hobie ads in Surfer Mag with the Corky CAROLL Model, the Joyce HOFFMAN Model and the Gary PROPPER Model.
The pintail longboards of that era were the last new models that cam out before shortboards began. The Lance Carson model was, I beleive the first pintail of that particular marketing era. The GP pin, the Weber Feather and most the rest were quickly repaced by Vee bottoms which were then quickly replaced by hull boards which were quickly replaced by the down railer. All this haapened so fast it was hard to keep up.
