Ink on Rice paper

Hello ,
Got some Rice paper for printing logos, but was thinking of drawing by hand on it instead.

Anyone knows what ink can be used on Rice paper that will not be ruined when the PE resin falls on it?

Is acrylic ok? Posca pens??

Cheers and good waves.

You need a water-soluble ink — not solvent soluble.

Safest bet do a little trial sample just to be sure.

Sounds like you have something pretty cool planned. I have considered doing the same, but never tried it yet. Hope you post some pics!

any reason your using rice paper and not just brushing/drawing direct on the blank?

Yes there is, lack of trust on my artistic skills.
if something goes wrong on the Blank there is no retry.

Cheers and good waves.

Haha all true!

I tried to find some old pics of artwork that I’ve done directly on the foam, I found a few… (the first two were kinda experimental, they were done with colored tissue paper applied to the foam with clear acrylic floor finish). The Wing Squad lettering was difficult to do directly onto foam.

I also found some artwork painted directly on the board, but not on foam. Like painted on wood or fiberglass. The beachcomber board was painted on the first layer of glass, then glassed over with the next layer. This was easier than painting on foam. That board was given a faux-aging process, where I painted on the foam some yellowing and some fake ding rot, to make it look older, that was fun. Then I glassed it, then painted it to look like an old sign, then another layer of glass. I still have the board, and no issues from doing it that way.

If you want to draw or paint directly on the board with any kind of fine detail, then IMO on top of one layer of glass & under another is the way to go.

Painting directly on the foam is cool, but you can’t really get fine detail. I had this board out this morning & doing a few minor repairs on it this afternoon. If you zoom in a little you can see where I really struggled with the lettering & the details on the foam. I think thats why I decided to paint the lettering over glass on the Beachcomber.

So now I’m kinda looking forward to seeing what the OP has up his sleeve, and trying some art drawn on rice paper myself. I have a small roll of rice paper, might as well put it to use!
