installing handles in EPS blank

Hey, i am an avid swaylocks viewer but this is my first time posting. I love the site and has helped me in many directions of board creations and processes. Have a question:

I am deglassing and reshaping a raceboard/paddleboard my beachpatrol bought and got scammed on. Horrible shape, about 28’’ wide, 13’ long, no rocker, and the deck looks like a design your skis would have on them, basically an EPS blank with the thinnest glass job.(will post pics once i am finished)

I need to install handles in the board for use as a paddleboard and trying to get opinions on what to use. I thought of leash plugs, possibly footstrap anchors. Also being it is an EPS blank what is the strongest way to bond these bad boys in there?

Looking for any amounts of advice

thanks a ton

Joe

I’ve used footsrap inserts. Set them in the blank with epoxy and chopped strand or Cab-o-sil before laminating and glass over with your lamination. They’ll be plenty strong that way. Use nylon strap material for the handles and double the end over and screw them into the insert with stainless steel screws and washers.

thanks greg. I found some footstrap plugs of Fiberglasssupply. I read a lot about your epoxy. Being i am up in New Jersey, is there anywhere i am get my hands on it up here, or do you know of any where i can get good clear quality epoxy (first time with epoxy lamination)

thanks again for the reply

take care
