Judging by the types of boards usually posted on the site I would guess that most people here don’t use em, but I was wondering if anyone had ever found a way of altering a pad so that it could be switched from board to board. My idea was to somehow get rid of the stickyness on the bottom of the pad and attach a heavy duty velcro to it and the board. I don’t think that there would be any problems with it moving while surfing, maybe only with getting the velcro to stick to both surfaces while removing the thing. Anyone else ever figured a way of doing this?
While Velcro can be stuck to things very well using contact cement-type adhesives, including being available in a peel-and-stick version or laminated to foam straight from Velcro themselves, I think you’d find that the price of large sections of it, over a foot wide, would be about the same price as a whole 'nother set of traction pads for the second board. oh well… http://www.velcro.com/
With the kind of heavy duty velcro you would have to use it, the hook and loop layer would be really thick, add on the foam for the pad and you’d probably end up with a pad around 1/2" thick which would cut down on your feel for the board. IMHO. Good idea though if you could bet around the thickness issue. Ryan
