intercontinental ballistic templates

evening all.

I’ve got another one of my (bi-monthly) urges to shape myself a crazy little fish. some of you know of my obsession with unconventional shapes/channels/fins/whatever.

anyhow, i was wondering if anybody would like the idea of swapping a template, or 2, of a board that you enjoy ( and a few notes on, say fin placing, curve etc ) via post.

i have a range of board designs around 5’9"x19"x2 1/4" and looking for other design concepts kinda in that ballpark, failing that, anyone got any funky ideas to fire into my next one?

5’9" bonzer

5’5" tunnel

where i live on the west coast (NZ) we get get far too much swell, sometimes only a day or so small in the year, so a board like this is real handy at making use of high tide reforms. just thought i might add a little exotic flavour to it…

hi Heist !

2 things : -

  1. how about a small version of the moonrocket , stingray, or ‘s.o.s.’ stubbie ?

  2. how about a photo of the bonzer’s bottom and fins , please ?

… cheers mate !

ben

Yo ben, heres a couple i whipped up. those fins are fairly large… 110mm bases, 115mm deep but plenty ‘o’ rake.

…yes perhaps a stinger might be fun

do you have runners for the bonzer too ?

Plan B …

how about a bonzer bottom stinger with 5 fin plugs / boxes options , and ‘proper’ bonzer runners ?

ben

Hi there! I’m just wondering how that tunnel works.

Jimmy yoshio shibata.

Hey Heist,

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT BLUE FIN ON THAT BOARD!!!

Tell us more…I’m very interested.

thanks

Hicksy

I seem to remember that they’re made here in W.A. [hooray??] , Hicksy …been advertised in ‘Tracks’ , occassionally …they were trying to get taj [or was it jake?] to ride 'em …and a coupla other local rippers.

ben

hi yoshio, (and hicksy- i think ben knows more about it than me) this crazy aussie guy turned up at my beach a while ago, and wanted a few of the local boys to try them out. he left me 3 “tunl” fins (tunnel) so i started experimenting on a few of my shapes.

not too sure on the physics of the whole thing (anyone else?) but you could try www.tunlsurf.com (sorry, don’t know how to make that into on of those cool links) hard to pin down its performance too… i have not tried it in a standard 6’2 x 18 1/2" whatever, only my slightly freakish designs. but it doesnt NOT work!?! in fact, on my first wave ever on the tunl, i managed my highest aerial ever (ridiculously high-not kiddin) maybe fluke, who knows.

of those 3 fins i got, i have lost all but one ( the blue one shown) through crazy crash landings. they just make me surf kinda ‘different’… that was not a very scientific explanation sorry.

nb. set it at 3 1/4" and using semi large carbon side fins with it

Thanks for all the info Heist. Seems like they are little bit too brittle since you only have got one left. looks like they’ll give some thrust out the back…

Thanks, Jimmy Yoshio Shibata.

and in 1963 …

I’d still like to see [?do it myself one day ?] about a 5’10- 6’3 ish version of Michael’s [in]famous board … ballistic missile material , indeed !!

[…even P.T. , with his pink three fin bonzer was gobsmacked !!]
