International car shipping anyone?

Has anyone shipped a vehicle to Costa Rica? If so, who did you use? Thanks so much!

The businesses that ship cars to Hawaii might be a good place to start the hunt.

That would be Matson(LA/Long Beach, Oakland, Seattle). Unless you have a “Pet” vehichle that you just can’t part with it really isn’t worth the price. There are plenty of vehicles down there that can be bought or rented. Here on Maui there has been talk of a new law requiring that you take out two “junker Maui Cruisers” when you leave for every car you bring in. Just what a 3rd world country needs, more burned out and stripped junkers left beside the road.

Unless you plan on taking the car out of the costa every 3 months you’ll have to pay an import tax that is nearly the value of the car!

The car we had was 2500 and the import tax would’ve been right around 2000.

Fostachild is right – you don’t want to bring your car down around these parts. Import duties will be ridic. Plus, you’ll want to buy a diesel when you get here. ( econo / plows through lakes/streets)

but if you insist: i’d try Crowley first - they are bigger here in LatAm for ro/ro type cargoes.

Thanks for the tips.
