Introducing Board Designer

Since I was a bit frustrated with how to distribute BoardCAD on different platforms, and working on some frontend development, I started tinkering with a small web app for board design.
Board Designer is an easy to use surfboard design software. It allows users to create and edit surfboard shapes with simple tools for editing outline, profile and cross sections. Designed for quick prototyping, it offers printing of templates and supports importing and exporting designs to compatible shaping software.
The goal have been simplicity with just what is needed straight in your browser. Also it install as a PWA so you can start it directly from an icon on your desktop or phone and give you a native like experience. For those who are used to other design software, it should feel familiar. For new users it should be easy enough to figure out.

It does require a subscription, but there is a one week trial if you just want to check it out.

BoardCAD will always be free. Releases · HavardNJ/boardcad-le · GitHub

Oh, and do let me know what you think, any issues or tips for improvements and features.

Bump.
I’m not a CAD user beyond 2D PowerPoint.
But I know there are some here who use or have used BoardCAD.
Hopefully they will comment.

what is the point of diy? is it to sell it your self???
No of course no.

i firmly belive in each one teach one ( that is how i go about life)

agree with you on the advertisement and etc…

not saying this one is better or the other is worse…but has anyone tryed shape3dx…because its quite easy to use…maybe its not perfect for the pros but at least like akushaper ( that gives you a view of a shaping bay…ITS FREE, both aku and s3dx are free without credit card schemes and trial versions.

cheers and good waves.

Aku and Shape3D are largely funded by the machine users who pay $$$$ for the pro licences, and even some very basic features cost money. I do not have the economic backing of big industry players, board designer primary aim is a different segment and unfortunatly there is cost involved in hosting this thing let alone the hours spent on development. I’ll be happy the day it break even with montly cost if that ever happens. That said, for what it offers in convenience I think and hope what I’m asking (~$2 backyarder-~$4 pro/month) is not too much.
If you want free may I suggest BoardCAD which me and Jonas made many, many years ago and I continue to maintain to this day. It has quite alot of features that you would need to pay for with other design software, latest version can be found at Downloading and installing BoardCAD LE | boardcad-le

I am glad to see @Haavard is still doing development in surfboard design software. I really enjoyed BoardCAD and look forward to it living on in various forms.

Does it work on a Mac? I used a hollow wood board designer once that could print out the ribs, but that program is gone. That was great because I could draw out the ribs and then print and cut them out. I like having ribs every 4 to 6 inches, most hollow board plans only have ribs every foot or so.
I also don’t use PCs anymore, just a Mac.

Board Designer is web based so it should work on pretty much everything. That said, I tend to only test on chrome and dont have a mac. I know mac can be quirky with web apps, even with running chrome. I guess I should get some old mac just to have something to test on.
I’ll make a note of HWS feature.
BoardCAD should in theory work on mac and does have HWS printing. Again, don’t have a mac so I cant test. Note that it will need to use the jar file and install java to work.

Thanks Haavard, I will check it out.

Hey, I’ve been trying a bit but can’t figure out how to print templates.
Something obvious that I’m missing?

I’ll look into it

Found an issue or two with the printing, should be ok now
