Is it a bad idea to have a black or near black deck? I thought I read somewhere that this can cause excessive heat and delam? Aside from the obvious of wax possibly not staying on.
Yes, bad idea. The black carbon boards I made are impossible, to keep wax on, to let sit unattended from sun heat damage, to sit in car if sunlight will hit the board, to ride on top off car when sun might shine, to sit on beach while putting on leash, to pause to chat with friends while sun hits board, to carry board from car to surf line, Black is a total headache, I wouldn'd do dark blue or any dark color after the experiences with black carbon.
It does get hot…wax does get a bit mesy, but they do look really great! I had this board in the car on some hot days (in a sock) and wax was all over the sock, but never delam’d. But…I never left it out in the sun without something over it, etc…as with any board. If you want to try it…do it.

I have a board with black rails and the only downside to the black is that is shows every single tiny scratch.
