Is Additive F the same as wax solution

I am in the process of glassing my second board, I’m using epoxy research resin. I sent my wife to fiberglass supply today for some additive F and the bottle they gave her doesn’t say anything on it but the receipt says wax solution. I’m not sure if this is the right stuff or not? Can anyone confirm?
Thanks.

Hello, polyester resin surfacing agent (styrene base) and Resin Research Additive F (xylene base) are different things.

I would call Fiberglass Supply and tell them what happened and ask them to confirm and/or replace.

Suppliers should not send anyone out the door with an unlabelled container, nor should a consumer accept something without a label.

PS/Edit: Not bagging on FS, I get stuff there too.

I was afraid of that, thanks for the reply. I guess I won’t be hot coating this weekend.

The stuff they sell in small quantities is in clear bottles. Not labeled if I remember right.

I think the poly surfacing agent is stated what it is.

I’ve seen guys use poly in a pinch and it worked fine for Hot Coats.

As long as the styrene mixture does not hit bare EPS foam, you’ll be allright.

You can skip the wax solution too.

It still sands out.

If you know the difference in the aromas, styrene and xylene are night and day different.  I’m not suggesting you get high huffing it, but a gentle waft would suffice to determine the base solvent.

Styr P work as surfacing agent for epoxy hotcoat.

You don’t need additive f for fill coating (“hot coat”) with epoxy resin.

Thanks for the feedback Barry.

I really dig your website. I’d love to stop by and check out your shop someday.

Much appreciated!
